People have inhabited Achill for over 5,000 years and you can find many crannog and bronze age settlements as well as other archaeological sites such as megalithic tombs. The deserted village in Slievemore, The Achill Mission Colony Settlement and the tower of the pirate queen Grace O’Malley are also places of great interest for anyone with a love of history and heritage.
