Achill 10k training starts now

Since I turned 30, nearly a decade ago, running has been a big part of my life. I go through periods of running almost every day, and then I leave the habit behind for a few months. But the itch to put on the training shoes is never too far away, and usually, subsequently I sign myself up for a new race to provide a motivating factor, to instil some self-discipline, to focus my mind. And so, the Achill 10k in July is now in my sights.

My fiancé, young daughter and I moved to Achill from London only a few months ago. My partner is a native of the parish and is busy reacquainting herself with friends and finding old haunts. But everything and everyone is still new to me.

Finding my way

Learning about somewhere new has always appealed to me. I’m very fortunate to have had the chance to work and travel throughout my life calling a number of different cities and countries home for various periods of time.

And this is the other great attraction of running to me; it has always proved to be a great way to get to know an area, and to find places I most likely wouldn’t have done otherwise. I’m hoping this will be the case in Achill too. I intend to keep a little blog to mark my progress with training and to document me getting to know my beautiful new home a little better.

Cheers

Chris

My plan is to raise some money for the RNLI in the process. So, if you see me plodding about the roads and tracks around the island maybe you could make a small donation yourself in support.
