Cleveland Donors To The Achill Experience

The initial seed funding for the Achill Experience project came from our friends, the Achill Diaspora based in Cleveland Ohio. Families sponsored initial ‘blocks’ represented on walls in the heart of our project today.

The Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland hosted a fundraising breakfast event, in the terminal tower sky scraper, 52 stories above the city of Cleveland, at which commitments were made to support our project.

This helped build momentum with funders in Ireland, when we could showcase what the Achill diaspora abroad were willing to do.

Their son, James, married Barbara Farquhar and had ten children. James Patton’s daughter Leonora married James Brennan whose great-grandparents, Colin Patrick and Agnes (Murphy) Brennan, immigrated to Cleveland. James and Leonora Brennan had five sons: James, Timothy, Patrick, Kevin, and Keith.

Michael J. Kilbane from Dooega
Michael J. Kilbane 1889-1955 and Mary Agnes Patten Kilbane 1900-1984 both from Dooega, married in Scotland in 1920. They immigrated to the USA in 1924. There they had five children, Catherine 1926-2014, James Joseph 1928-1983, John Patrick 1930-2013, Mary Elizabeth 1931-1999 and Ann Carolina 1933.
John Patrick Kilbane married Joanne V. Golden Kilbane 1929-2013 in 1953. John was an assistant Fire Chief for the Lakewood Fire Dept. and Joanne was a registered nurse and later a homemaker.
